Although the helicopter sections are much higher visibility - the Aviation Command also operates a Fixed Wing section.
The Maryland State Police began flying in 1954 with a Stinson L5, two-seat, radio-equipped airplane. The use of this aerial platform represented a significant advance in law enforcement operations. In addition, fixed wing speed enforcement initiatives have led to the issuance of thousands of speeding citations and many related criminal apprehensions.
