The Maryland State Police Aviation Command Maintenance Section is comprised of over twenty of the most experience aircraft technicians you will find anywhere. Each of our technicians is aware of how important their role is in the safe operation of the Command and each takes that responsibility seriously.
All of our helicopters undergo constant inspection and maintenance. At the beginning of every shift, each pilot performs a pre-flight inspection. After each flight, the pilots perform a post-flight inspection. These inspections by the pilots are designed to identify any potential problems before they become an issue. Any discrepancies are immediately brought to the attention of Maintenance Operations.
After every 25 hours of flight time, all aircraft are flown to our Maintenance Section which is located at Martin State Airport in Baltimore County. During these "25 hour" inspections, a team of technicians thoroughly inspects each aircraft. Routine maintenance is performed and discrepancises are corrected. After every 100 hours of flight time, an even-more-thorough inspection occurs. In these inspections the technicians complete a long list of required inspections, additional maintenance is performed and problems are corrected. And after 500 hours of flight time each aircraft undergoes a "T" inspection during which time the aircraft is disassembled down to the frame and every nut, bolt and wire is inspected and replaced as needed. As you can see, the maintenance requirements on the aircraft we fly are intense. That is why our technicians must be as experienced and qualified as they are.
